The Fundamentals of Flourishing is an indispensable course for novice and professional calligraphers who want to flourish like a master.

I believe that anyone can flourish and I will show you how by sharing the rich history of this art form, what's necessary to begin, an exclusively curated list of my trusted tools and materials, a breakdown of the most complex flourishes with my stroke-by-stroke approach and finally, guiding you into creating a final flourished masterpiece!

Maybe you don't consider yourself a "calligrapher" or you haven't picked up the pen in a while. Not to worry. I've designed my course for the beginnger and the pro alike. Whether it's your first time flourishing or you could do this in your sleep, every student has the opportunity to gain knowledge and expand their skills and confidence as an artist and calligrapher.


I have structured this course as a self-paced, comprehensive guide into flourishing as well as an anthology of the individual components that are referenced in the class. I want you to be able to use the knowledge here as a trusted lifetime resource for you as you venture further into your calligraphy journey.


You'll have the opportunity to look over my shoulder throughout this course as it was intentionally and artfully filmed to bring you into the intimacy of my calligraphy studio. Through the professionally captured angles of each video, you'll have an up-close look of proper pen grip, whole-arm movement, and more as I show you how I approach the art of flourishing.


You have built-in accountability and encouragement throughout the course as I'll be interacting with my students in the comment sections and more intimately through the course's private Facebook group.

I am a professional artist and certified Master Penman from Denver, Colorado USA. The youngest in history among eleven existing Masters today, I received my Master Penman certificate from the International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH) in July of 2011. I work across numerous mediums in art and calligraphy and I am most well known for my use of traditional calligraphic flourishing and hand lettering in the context of my fine art.

I launched Jake Weidmann Academy with my first-ever online course, 'The Fundamentals of Flourishing,' in July of 2019 with the aim to provide the best possible guidance into this dying art form. I'm continuously asked to teach this craft, among numerous other art-related topics, all over the world year after year. While I love traveling to teach what I know, I wanted everyone to have access to what I have to offer from making a flourishing career from it!

When does the course start and finish?
The course starts now and ends...whenever! It is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
What if I'm unhappy with the course?
While we think you'll be more than satisfied with the course, we'll make it right if you're unhappy with your investment for any reason.
Where can I buy Jake's recommended tools and materials for the Fundamentals of Flourishing Course?
In partnership with Paper and Ink Arts, we have set up a list of recommended tools of the trade so that you can find what is recommended for the course. These are the tools and materials that I stand by in performance, affordability, and archival qualities (upon purchasing the course, you'll have access to the link to these tools. Is there a place I can share my work with other students of JW Academy?
Yes! We have set up a private Facebook group specifically for Jake Weidmann students. This is a student-only group and you must provide your order ID number for the course to request submission for the group. This is a great place to find out who else is taking the course and ask questions of your peers and even share your works in progress and final works! Jake interacts via FB LIVE sessions and interacts within the group, engaging in your questions!
Registration is only open at certain times. How can I expect to know when registration is live?
Registration is currently OPEN as of September 20th! When registration is closed, fill out the form at the top of the page and we'll let you know when registration will relaunch!
Are refunds available if I'm unhappy with the course?
While we hope this course is everything you expected and more, we will NOT offer refunds 30 days after purchase. If before the 30-day mark you are unsatisfied for any reason, please contact us and we will make it right.
Do I get 1-on-1 time with Jake as my teacher?
Because this is a SELF-PACED course, please note that 1-on-1 sessions with Jake will not occur throughout this course. Instead, the private Facebook group will allow you to ask questions and interact with Jake via FB LIVE video sessions with groups of flourishing students. (See above.) Don't have Facebook? You'll be able to ask questions and share photos in the comment sections of the course.
Does this course have homework or feedback for how I'm doing?

Does this course cover alphabetical/letter flourishing?
This flourishing class is ALL of the basics that Master Penman Jake believes must be taught in order to learn to flourish with letters. So while this course does not cover alphabetical flourishing, (that is a much more complex course) Jake wanted to be sure his students were introduced to the fundamentals of flourishing to be successful in other flourishing courses that he is currently developing and that will be offered later on.
